The cannabis industry in Thailand is growing, yet there is still significant untapped potential. Many opportunities are waiting to be seized, and Thai cannabis businesses are fine-tuning the necessary tools to capitalize on them. It is within this context that, on November 25th and 26th, the Nou Frontiers conference will take place again in Bangkok. This growers-only event focuses on knowledge-sharing to improve the cannabis industry in the only Asian country with a regulated sector. Cultivators is one of the co-organizers of this event.
Thai licensed producers face several challenges that prevent them from thriving as they could. “The goal of this conference is to address these issues and find a way forward as a united industry,” says Sonny Moerenhout.
The conference begins with an invite-only roundtable where industry players will discuss topics such as quality standards and collaborative cannabis marketing. “Only key growers will participate in this roundtable, fostering a unified industry aimed at improving the sector for everyone’s benefit, thereby ensuring the longevity of the Thai cannabis industry as a whole,” Sonny adds.
The main conference starts at midday, launching two days packed with keynotes addressing every aspect of the cannabis supply chain: from greenhouse design and cultivation strategies to GMP, GACP, processing, and drying.
For instance, Sonny himself will take the stage to discuss cannabis cultivation research conducted in the Netherlands. “Thailand has high humidity, and one of the key challenges in greenhouses is to have climate systems designed to manage it effectively. I’ll use the case study of Thai Stick, a company that we as Cultivators supported in improving and finetuning their climate system, showing how we adapted lessons from the Netherlands to the Thai context.” To read more about this case, click here.
Although all the keynotes are noteworthy, a few deserve special mention to highlight the growing importance of the Thai cannabis industry on the global stage. Emily Rigby from the Australian Medicinal Cannabis Association will deliver a keynote, reflecting the strengthening connection between the Thai and Australian cannabis industries as some Thai producers begin exporting to Australia. Tom Forest from Puro, a cannabis grower in New Zealand, will also take the stage to discuss the nuances of cultivating cannabis there. Additionally, Roger Nakazawa from Japan will join, as the country is set to change its CBD regulations, creating a new potential export market for Thai growers. And also Dr. Shikska Gallow from South Africa will be speaking. She is the Medical Director of Holistic Integrative Healing Institute and the Principal Investigator for the first Medical Cannabis Study in South Africa.
“The Thai cannabis industry is gaining momentum. This is the perfect time for us to come together and foster an environment where collaboration and knowledge-sharing are two of the main pillars,” concludes Sonny.
