From Multinational Corporations to Horticulture. Meet Our Team: Hang Hoang, Business Analyst at Cultivators

Published on 24/03/2025

Hang is originally from Vietnam. She has spent most of her life in the bustling Ho Chi Minh City, which is her hometown. While her father worked in the poultry industry, she initially pursued a different career path, studying economics and foreign trade.

Early Career in Multinational Corporations

Hang’s professional journey began in her home country, Vietnam. After graduating in 2012, she joined L’Oréal, a global leader in the beauty and cosmetics industry, as a management trainee. This program allowed her to rotate across various departments—including supply chain, retail, marketing, and finance—providing her with a well-rounded understanding of corporate operations and management practices.

After more than five years at L’Oréal, Hang transitioned to GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a global healthcare corporation, where she took on the role of demand forecasting leader for consumer health products. Her responsibilities span four markets—Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar—covering multiple sales channels, including pharmacies, hospitals, groceries, and supermarkets. The focus on project management, cross-functional collaboration, and cost optimization at GSK further honed her ability to navigate complex operational challenges.

A Leap into Horticulture: Following Her Passion

“One of my best childhood memories was having a small garden where I grew herbs and flowers,” Hang shares. “Growing up, I thought being a farmer would be my retirement plan because, at the time, agricultural jobs were not considered financially rewarding. But during COVID-19, I had more time to grow plants and learn about horticulture, and it made me truly happy. I am grateful for my career, but I realized I did not want to wait until I was 60 to work with plants.”

Motivated by her passion for garden design and sustainable horticulture, Hang made a bold decision to pursue further education in the Netherlands, a country renowned for its expertise in horticulture. She enrolled in the HAS Green Academy’s Horticulture and Business Management program, where she deepened her knowledge of plant science and industry practices.

This educational experience paved the way for her current role as a Business Analyst at Cultivators. Here, Hang combines her corporate experience with her newfound passion for sustainable agriculture. Supporting various projects, she works on financial overviews for business cases, providing growers with data-driven insights to guide their crop or facility investments. Her work bridges the gap between financial success and cultivation goals, ensuring that growers make informed, strategic decisions.

Lately, Hang has collaborated with cultivation experts on numerous projects, providing consulting services to growers and investors across Europe and North America. With her in-depth analysis of financial factors such as CAPEX, OPEX, cost pricing, and gross margin, she offers valuable insights alongside cultivation considerations like variety specifications and facility suitability. A recent success story comes from one of our satisfied clients in the UK, where guidance on the business case helped them select the most optimized combination of lettuce varieties.

“I feel fortunate to be working at Cultivators—it is both intellectually stimulating and personally fulfilling,” Hang says. “I continue to learn so much about the horticulture industry from my colleagues, who are experts in their fields—not only in growing leafy greens and medicinal cannabis but also in managing large-scale cultivation operations.”

Beyond her work in business analysis, Hang is also responsible for standardizing documents and supplier data, ensuring Cultivators maintains top-tier quality in an efficient manner. To further expand her network and knowledge in the international horticulture industry, she contributes to marketing efforts by interviewing cultivation experts and writing articles to share the latest insights on leafy greens.

Recently, Hang has moved back to her home country. However, regardless of different time zones and distances, team collaboration and quality of work continue to thrive.

We are thrilled to have Hang on board at Cultivators. With her diverse experience and unwavering passion, we are confident she will have a rewarding journey in horticulture and make a lasting impact in the industry.
