Cultivation For Compounds: cultivation technology of the future today

Published on 13/06/2022

Vertify, Cultivators and World Horti Centre have formed the consortium Cultivation For Compounds, together with a group of dedicated suppliers. This consortium has committed to a four-year research and representation program on Cannabis Cultivation. The research program into cultivating cannabis for compounds has recently started at Vertify. An informative pavilion will open at World Horti Centre later this year.

Why Cultivation For Compounds?
Cultivation for Compounds focuses on cannabis cultivation for specific compounds. It is evident that, the cannabis industry holds a promising perspective for the horticultural sector. In turn, the companies are forming a consortium that possesses substantial experience in the global legal cannabis industry.

The initiative not only focuses on cannabis cultivation in general, but also has a particular focus on cultivation for active components. Johan Kos: ‘Growing for compounds is a development we do not only see in cannabis, but also in other medicinal and food crops. We expect a future that is focused on steering on compounds over kilos.’

After Vertify received the license earlier this year, the consortium launched a four-year cannabis cultivation research program. They planted the first cannabis plants in late May. All partners actively apply the highest standards and the latest market techniques to carry out the research. “With this research program, we aim to deepen our knowledge of cannabis cultivation for compound production,” says Sonny Moerenhout of Cultivators.

Moreover, the program not only focuses on cultivation but also emphasizes post-harvest techniques. The team equipped the facility with trimming machines and tray drying cabinets, which allows them to investigate, manage, and control the entire process—from seed to final product—for compounds tested in an accredited laboratory.

In addition, Jim Koop of World Horti Centre adds, “At World Horti Centre, we will share insights into the broader cannabis industry—from background and applications of the compounds to cultivation practices and industry players with their solutions. The Netherlands is already linked to cannabis, and this pavilion will showcase the high-tech side of the industry.” Construction of the pavilion at the World Horti Centre is underway and set for official opening in September.

Cultivation for Compounds would not exist without its consortium partners: Biobest, BrightLabs, Cannabis Drying, DCM, Fluence, Grodan, Master Products, MJ Tech, Phormium, Priva and sponsors: KG Systems, Van Dijk Heating & Perfect Plants. All these companies have invested their trust and expertise in this project.

Want to know more about Cultivation for Compounds? Sonny Moerenhout of Cultivators will present the project at GreenTech at the Crops Theatre on Tuesday, 14th June, 14:45-15:30.
